Beam Deflection Problem

Hello,

I really need your help.

This is the problem.

I have a trimmed model of the Hoist structure, the beams along columns as highlighted in Red in Fig1.pdf failed in deflection as the result in Analysis.

There are large deflection values at main cantilever members.

The following are already tested in the model but will still fail in design.

  1. Increase of beam size
  2. Addition of knee brace
  3. Deleted loads on the beam.

Q1.Is there something wrong with the parameters set for a cantilever beam?

Q2. The members are assigned with MAster slave to columns to consider the actual length, is this method correct?

Q3. Does the failure have to do with Built-up column section?

Does the main column have anything to do with the effects of the cantilever beam?

Notes : This model was run in STAAD.Pro v8i SS6 Build 20.07.11.90. When I try to run the analysis in STAAD Advanced Connect Edition, I encounter error in analysis.

Thank you very much in advance.

Have a great day!

  • Mr Sye,

    Just for Follow up.

I tried to run with SEI only to non-built up members, and it seems that I still cannot continue the analysis.

1.) Does this glitch applicable to the Staad file itself wherein once there are built-up member, it is not recommended to use SEI parameter?

2.) Is there another parameter/workaround related to SEI I can use? Horizontal drift varies greatly If I don't include SEI in the design parameter.

Thank you very much in advance.
