I have some questions regarding Flanged beam design using RCDC that I hope you can help me with.
If we model the beam as T shape in STAAD.Pro and then export it to RCDC , an error massage indicating beam is missing will show up.
I read in the help file that Isolated Flanged beam disgn is not considered . Does that mean that we can not design flange beam for isolated frame as this one below ? Could you clarify this note
HiYes, RCDC reads only rectangular beam section from STAAD analysis file. he effective width of compression flange is calculated as per clause 8.12.1
Generally in building design slab supported at top of beam is acting as a compression flange, RCDC design only bottom Mid section as Flanged section. Other location like top left, mid , right and bottom left and right sections are designed as rectangular section only. Bottom left and right due to physical continuity of the beam effect of top slab as compression flange can not be considered. please refer design calculation report for flanged beam design.RCDC doesn't design the flange beam as Isolated Flange beam like in Bridge girder.user can deign the beam exists in isolated frame as shown by you. You have to assign beam as flange beam and you can define the value of Df (thickness of top slab) in input for flanged beam design.even if you design the section as flange beam, RCDC shows the cross section as rectangular only.if you want to show slab in cross section of the beam please follow below steps,1. Design Beam2. Design slab at same level. save and close the file.3. Beam design - file menu - import slab design file which is designed in step-24. Beam - reports - detailed drawings - select option of slab in cross section.
