RAM Elements Load Combinations

When I use the "recover load conditions" button on the "Load conditions" panel on the home tab, I often end up with seemingly random loads on members. Some are user inputs and others are from area pressures. I keep clearing them out in the spreadsheet, resaving the load condition file (.CAS) and opening on the next model, but the loads are always there. They aren't always the same loads, but there is always a handful. Any idea how to remove them all from the load condition file? I have repeatedly cleared every load visible in the spreadsheet.

  • Interesting.

The .CAS file saved when using the "Save load conditions" command is a plain text file and it has the basic information that populates the Add/Edit load conditions dialog only. In other words, it has the names of the loads cases, the types, and the combinations. It does not have any information about specific magnitude loads on members, areas etc.

When the "Recover load conditions" command is selected, the program warns that the loads will be deleted:

But in reality the applied loads are not deleted, just reindexed.

    Here's my example...

    First load - DL before:

    Second Load "Lat=Seismic" before:

    Then I recovered these cases

The DL is the same, but the original forces from the Seismic Load case (#2) are part of the new "Duct" case.

I think the common use for this tool is to set up the cases and combinations for a new file. People seldom use it with a model that has applied loads already.

If you want to clear the loads completely, you can delete the load cases before using the "Recover load conditions" tool, or simply clear the various load spreadsheets. There are several sheets for nodes, members, shells and areas for each load case to consider.

  • Thank you for the speedy reply, I just completed the process you detailed in the example and got the same results. At lest I know that the load conditions file isn't the source of the error.
