StaadPro Connect Edition update 5 is missing an option to add "Solid rectangle" under prismatic in physical modeler

Please respond if anyone has same issue, as I am having with update 5!

1) Under catalog to Add a new section> shape>Source: catalog > Type: Prismatic> Shape: "Solid Rectangle",  is not found. in StaadPro Connect Edition update 5 (22.05.00.131)

2) Solid rectangle option to Add shape shape for concrete member is too useful; also described in a Bentley  video (2018) for Physical modeling.

3) This "Solid Rectangle" omission is creating problems in using RCDC where "Beams missing" option always pops up. Beams missing error removal (many method) does not make any affect on this.

4) A video (1:53) firstly showing update 3 which has solid rectangle then after (0:31 second ) SPRO CE update 5 is shown etc..

5) Update 5 can neither be used in physical modeler nor analytical modeler when opting to adding any section using user table ,also no used with RCDC (beam section can not be made easily)

6) I had to revert back to Update -3 ; 22.03.00.28 which is working fine.

Thanks

Arun

  • To create a rectangle prismatic section in STAAD.Pro CE Update 5, select any member, go to the Member menu and click on the Section icon. Select Source as Catalog, Type as Prismatic and Shape as Rectangle. Here you can provide a section name and enter its dimensions. This section can then be assigned to the members by selecting the Source as Model.

  • That rectangle shape do create any section; But  concrete member design using physical modelling workflow where one selects  RCDC  gives error while creating new RCDC files: giver erron "Beams missing". i.e concrete design using RCDC cannot be done with rectangle command; this is what I understood with update 5, Also for older file having "solid rectangle" method does not work in update 5..

  • Ok, we did some more research on this issue and see some strange behavior. Basically what I noticed is when we create a rectangle section in the SPPM and click calculate button to calculate its properties, the sections is imported into Analytical Modeler as a User Provided Section and it cannot be transferred into RCDC. However, if we do not click Calculate button in the SPPM while creating a rectangle section (leave the properties as 0) then this section is imported into the Analytical Model as a prismatic section and then it can be designed fine in the RCDC. This workflow looks a bit confusing, so we asked the development team to clarify this.

  • Thanks for noticing. Please ask your development  team to check once with only Staadpro Analytical modeling workflow too,  where if one  try to add any section prismatic- from user table, there even Run analysis will give "error " of " unable to read member properties , just below member line. One try with single one member ,that will clear what is happening in update 5!; And what about old models created with "Solid rectangle" on older updates? They will not work in this update 5!

  • I am not sure if I understand this. Do you mean that if you add the prismatic section in the user table in the Analytical Modeler, that file cannot be analyzed? Can you attach such model?

Older models with rectangular sections should be opened in the Update 5. STAAD should automatically convert such sections into UPT sections. If that does not happen for you, please attach that model (.std and .stdp files).

  • For 1st part of above i.e user table, yes I had error in analysis, but I removed my test models once I reverted back to update 3, thus i did not knew which of my test model had that issue. As far as I remember: after dropping SPPM and use with material combination of Indian Concrete, in SPAM workflow, i found error  in 8 member model too. At present I am not on update 5 and because I  could not find and confirm,  hence not sending you such model!

For 2nd part of above, with older SPPM file having "solid rectangle" -prismatic, here in an test file (version update 3 or 4), which can open in SPPM, it will give msg to change in model, once you confirm, this will change solid parameter before sending to SPAM . Thereafter issue of "beam missing" in RCDC may persist. I have attached this very  files 5635.test 2.ziptoday on one of my service request to Bentley too.

  • We are aware about the issue when rectangular sections created in the SPPM are not imported into RCDC. The development team is looking into this.
