Truss angle evaluated by H2-1, instead of D2, AISC 360-16 ASC (V1.2)

I saw similar question but it was for Compression.

Are there any reason that following "Tension" member is evaluated by H2-1?

I'm using ASC (V1.2) of Ver.22.05.00.131, but it seems that the same angle was evaluated by D2 when using ASC (V1.1)  of Verson 22.02.00.26.

  • This is happening because in recent versions the design routine has been updated to consider the effect of eccentricity on the single angle members. As you know the chapter E5 permits neglecting the effects of eccentricity but only if certain conditions are met. Unfortunately there is no way for the software to check if ALL the conditions are met because as of now there is no way for the user to specify those inside the software. So it was decided to take the most conservative route and account for the eccentricity and that is why you are seeing the H2-1 references. We are however going to make modifications to the software to add additional design parameters so that the users are able to specify whether all the conditions outlined in the chapter E5 are met or not. For the records there is a product backlog item# 515121 that has been created for this work item and it will be implemented soon.

    Thank you for your reply, but is it applicable for tension member also?

    I think there is no consideration of eccentricity in chapter D2. Tensile Strength.
