There appears to be a bug: I have a built-up section consisting of two w-shapes (and cover plates, omitted for this discussion). The problem is the editor defines alpha as -90 degrees, so V is parallel to local Y, and U is parallel to local Z. Is there a way to rotate the U-V grid such that alpha = 0?
The problem arises that setting beta to 90 will not solve: moment of inertias Iu (and Iz) and Iv (and Iy) are correct and as expected. However, YD and ZD are incorrect and not expected. The values are swapped such that the reported Yd should be Zd. And vice versa, reported Zd should be Yd.
To recreate the problem: Section Wizard -> Standard Section -> Double I Beam -> ASTM, W, W12x30. A pair of I beams is shown, and Y and U are parallel (alpha = 0). Shift the left element along Y-axis -40, and now alpha = -90 (V is parallel to Y axis).
Is there a way to rotate alpha within the Section Builder?
Hello,
I tried to duplicate the issue. But it seems working fine in my system with 22.05.00.131. If you are using any other version please upgrade to this version. If you are using the same version then please capture a video to make us understand the steps. I am using the create standard section options as shown below.
