I have a Concrete slab supported by a grid of Concrete Beams, Columns and perimeter walls. I have run the design for beams and columns in ram concrete. If I import only the slab to RAM Concept, along with Columns and perimeter walls, omitting the beams, will the imported slab be supported along the existing beam lines? Or should I support it using Line spring / line support?
Thank You!
Ram Concept will perform a new gravity load analysis. If you import a slab, and loads, but no beams, then the slab alone will have to resists those loads. While you could add line springs to simulate the beams, why not just import the beams?
I chose not to import the beams, because I read in one of the Bentley pages that, concrete beams created in RAM SS, as discrete members causes issues with meshing.
No, not usually. If the end mitering of the beams should lead to a problem you can always adjust them on the mesh input - standard plan.
I was actually referring to this issue. Does this not impose a problem anymore?
If you want a clean, mitered connection there, then you can miter or skew the ends of each beam (e.g. at 45 deg), but overlapping does not really cause any problem.
If the beams are the same depth then you can also just stretch them to overlap. If one beam is deeper than the other, then you want to make sure that the deeper beam has the larger, dominant priority value (if you are meshing beams using the priority method and overlapping the beams).
If you do nothing, then the outside corner quadrant will only be the slab thickness.
