Gusset base plate for braced column on both major and minor axis (RAM Connection Standalone)

I am designing a gusset base plate for W-section column with WT-bracings on both major and minor axis of column in RAM Connection Standalone. I selected the CB-Column base with two braces template. (left and right braces) How do I change the bracing pattern to be orthogonal / perpendicular ?

  • Yes, that's been Bentley's recommendation in the past. It's a workable solution for RAM Connection standalone where you can just have 2 joints to represent 1 physical joint. It's not so good for using RAM Connection module inside RSS. It also doesn't account for the 100/30 interaction rule for high seismic conditions (SDC D, or SDC C for projects with nonparallel system irregularities) per ASCE 7 (sections 12.5.3 & 12.5.4). In RCSA, you'd need to manually account for that if you're in a high-seismic area.
