WARNING IN WIND LOAD DEFINITION AND APPLIED SELF WEIGHT IS MORE THAN TOTAL WEIGHT OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS!!??

fbd sec-14(02-06-21).std

HELLO, i have uploaded my project file and I am facing 4 warnings 2 of which are applied self-weight is more than the applied total weight of structural elements and one is wind forces Fx, Fy, Fz could anyone explain these errors I couldn't eliminate them.

  • Hi,

This warning may have resulted due to the presence of many overlapping collinear members and improper beam-plate connectivity:

       **WARNING-fx fy fz wind forces:  5.2446E-01  0.0000E+00  0.0000E+00
                 at coordinates:        1.0980E+01  1.5000E+01 -1.6525E+01 ignored.

Please fix the geometry issues and see if this helps.

    For the warning below:

*WARNING- APPLIED SELFWEIGHT IS MORE THAN TOTAL WEIGHT OF ALL
STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS IN LOAD CASE      3 ALONG Y.
THIS COULD BE DUE TO SELFWEIGHT APPLIED TO SPECIFIC
                 LIST OF MEMBERS/PLATES/SOLIDS/SURFACES.
TOTAL UNFACTORED WEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE =              10393.995 KN
TOTAL UNFACTORED WEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE APPLIED =      10429.764 KN

This was noticed in later V8i version - the load applied on the structure due to self-weight occurs due to self-weight from members / plates / solids PLUS the self-weight from shear-walls. However, self-weight from shear-walls are included twice. As such load applied on the structure becomes more that the actual load. This was fixed in Connect Edition v21 version.
You may find this note in revision history document:

    A) 10 The processing of the surface object selfweight command has been updated to correct the loading created with the list option ALL. Previously this would have doubled the weight of surface objects.

Note - now surface elements are deprecated in latest Connect Edition versions.
