At the top of the report view is an option to "Show Formulas" If you turn that on you will get more details about the capacity calculations. The demand side calculations are not always spelled out, but for moment connections we perform a conversion of the axial load and moment into an effective flange force (and then adjust that by 1/2 when checking one side for stiffeners). Send your file and confirm your version if that does not help.
RAM incorrect Doubler Plate Report_210713.pdf
Hi Seth,
I've attached the report with the formulas and in Check no. 22, page 6 of the PDF, I've highlighted the fact that RAMCON is using "flange doubler" thickness into calculation of "column flange local bending capacity" at the top flange, even though flange doubler is not provided in the design example. This error results in RAMCON incorrectly calculating the column flange capacity.
Can you please let me know if you agree with this? I have attached PDF report with this email. I am not able attach RAM file as it keeps on giving me the error in uploading. If you have another email address, then I will try sending it to you.
Thanks.
Regards,
Meeshant
I'm getting somewhat different results in a test model. There must be some setting that is different in your file (something to do with the stiffeners). If you can send the actual file that's best. If you don't want to post it publicly, use Secure File Upload
I've uploaded file, "JB4_BMEP with JB3.rcnx" to the secure file upload (snap shot as below).
Please let me know if you have been able to access it.
regards,
I have the file. It uses some custom materials, but I made a substitution and I agree with your conclusion. I'll report the issue for correction (Defect 674421: AS 4100 Check 22 - Column Flange buckling without flange doubler). Meanwhile, if you add a flange doubler but make it very thin (e.g. 1 mm) you can get a more accurate check.
