I have a question regarding Staadpro.
How to mark a single beam (from column to column) instead of parts. I know about physical member and Steel designer module but it seems very tedious. Can anyone show a simpler method.
I am using staadpro v8i.

You can form physical members while modeling , or you can use the master slave option to simulate a slab and avoiding in this way to part the beam in multiple members.

As I said Using Physical member is a tedious process, and also while designing it does not design as full beam as in ETABS.
Any other suggestions.
I would also like to mention the following.
STAAD is a mathematical modeling program. The problem you describe is one of the limitations of such programs which are meant for modeling general purpose structures.
A very simple way to get around this limitation is to specify the following sequence of commands
SELECT MEMBER list GROUP MEMBER list PERFORM ANALYSIS CHECK CODE list
This method is illustrated in Example 1 in the American Examples manual.
Alternatively, if the type of work you do is mostly building type, or has numerous physical members, you ought to look into programs like RAM Structural which are geared to handle physical members from the modeling phase through the final design phase
This may be a general question, but i'm not sure I agree with the comment "limitations of such programs".
In Staad you have all the information along the length of all of the beams (column to column) seperated into segments. Why doesn't Staad simply combing each segment (similar to the physical member in steel design) and show you shear and moment diagrams along the full beam? This would provide a much more realistic way to check for modeling errors and verify designs.
To get displacements and shear/bending diagrams for the entire physical member you need to define physical members consisting of the analysis segments as indicated in one of the posts below. After you perform the analysis you can change your cursor to the physical member cursor and double click on the physical member and the query box should display the results for the physical member as a whole as opposed to the individual analysis segments.
