Like it says above, design of beams takes at least 20 minutes every time. But if i jump onto another computer and run the same model, it takes 8 seconds. I'm running a AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. I've updated my drivers, and changed monitors to no avail. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?
You might want to check the solver used for each machine: RAM SS Solver Type
Is this for gravity beams design, i.e. Ram Steel Beam, or the code check in Ram Frame? If it's Ram Frame, does the model have any side plates or other custom type members (e.g. BRBFs)?
both machines run the direct sparse In-core solver, which seems to be the most ideal option. Does that have specific effect on beams as well though? or is it just for frame analysis?
This is gravity analysis for RAM steel beam
The solver suggestion above was only relevant for Ram Frame.
For Ram Steel beam design performance I have seen the program take a long time for castellated beam design, but that's consistent machine to machine.
I wonder if the location of the working directory would have any impact on the performance, i.e. if it's not on the local disk, you might check into that. See: https://communities.bentley.com/products/ram-staad/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/2983/ram-ss-installation-faq
Some sort of virus scanner is another possibility. I assume the machine is running fast otherwise?
A reinstall and reboot is worth a shot.
