When designing a SCBF connection with "Slotted with cover plates", does Ram connection check that the yield line occurs in the gusset plate and not in the knife plate?
We are checking the gusset plate (your red line). The output will indicate something like below:
Tension yielding on the Whitmore section [Kip] 84.18 307.83 E1 3.66 Eq. J4-1 Buckling on the Whitmore section [Kip] 79.20 187.02 E2 2.36 Eq. E3-1
We are also checking the connecting plate, but that's in another section and the bolt shear or bearing is usually critical.
