Hi,
When running the joint shear checks in RAM concrete for a SMF, I'm finding that the joint concrete strength is set to the concrete strength of the beam, not the concrete strength of the column. Is there an option to change the concrete strength at the joint to match the column?
In reality the higher strength concrete for the columns would be poured up through the column and puddled around the column/beam joint.
Thanks for the help,
Hi Seth -
I looked into it more, and I can find joints where the "joint shear" f'c is equal to either the column's or beam's f'c. Seems to be random but most match the beam f'c in my model.
Regardless, the joint shear strength calculation uses the column's f'c even if the report says otherwise, so it looks like the values are correct.
Running the numbers for the joint design that I attached to the previous post:
f'c = 5 ksi : 0.85*15*sqrt(5000)*32*54/1000 = 1558 K
f'c = 10 ksi : 0.85*15*sqrt(10000)*32*54/1000 = 2203 K
Thanks,
I ran a test and on my report the column f'c is reported at the top (version 17.02, ACI 318-11, SMF, 7 ksi columns vs 4 ksi beams).
