Reinforced Concrete Slab Design using RCDC CONNECT Edition V9 Update 4

Dear Bentley team,

We have been trying to validate RC slab design as per IS 456:2000 using RCDC software. We planned to use your RCDC software in our Mega size Projects.

While checking we found following issues in RCDC:-

  1. Design moment & shear are on higher side - As per IS 456:2000, effective span of slab (calculated as per Clause 22.2) to be used for design force calculation. But noted that RCDC calculates based on node to node distance from STAAD model. This may be lead to larger span in some cases for design.
  2. Bending moment coefficient wrongly provided - For moment calculation, coefficients does not match exactly with Table26 of IS code for few cases.
  3. Effective depth calculation not correct - By default, RCDC use 10mm diameter rebar for calculation of effective depths but in actual as per provided rebar size depth shall vary and this will have an impact in overall design.
  4. RCDC does not give reinforcement in edge strip as per Annex-D Clause D-1.7 in the results. This is very Critical which needs to be updated, without edge/support rebar information design is incomplete.
  5. RCDC takes effective depth for calculation of minimum reinforcement instead of overall depth (given in Clause 26.5.2.1)
  6. Deflection based on L/d - RCDC does not take values of 'basic span to depth ratio' as per Clause 23.2.1(a).
  7. Deflection value not provided - RCDC does not calculate actual deflection and check with allowable deflection as per Clause 23.2 not performing. This is very critical for complete design of a slab.

Kindly do the needful to understand if the issues stated above regarding RCDC software are valid  & if yes, how the issues will be resolved? We required your immediate attention since we planned to use your software for design.
