IMPORT BEAM OF MAT FOUNDATION FROM STAAD ADVANCED FOUNDATION TO RCDC

Please may anyone help me the procedure on how to import beam of Mat foundation from Staad Advanced Foundation to RCDC for designing.

  • Here is the procedure:

    1. Create a mat foundation job in SFA with beams connecting the supports.

    2. Analyse the job in SFA

    3. Navigate to the folder where the SFA file is saved. There will be folder with the same name as the SFA file. Inside the folder, there will be a .std file for the mat file created in SFA

    4. Now open the file in RCDC in beam module and select the option" Consider beam at foundation level".

A video for the above workflow is attached here.

  • Thank you Aswathi, and in this new version is it possible to offset the beams so that, the bottom surface of my beam and Mat foundation to be in the same level?

  • Its nice i managed, but the loads observed in this RCDC file for load cases are only load combinations, but rcdc needs to identify loads as either dead load, live load etc and not combination how can i overcome this?and how can i add combination from analysis?

  • Does your original mat job created in SFA has load cases included in it? Only the loadcases included in the mat job will be identified by RCDC. Could you attach your SFA file here?

  • SFA File

    5228.Structure1_foundation.sfa

    Staad File

    Structure1_foundation.std

Thank you i have made some revision by including primary load cases in the load list for design and i was able to view primary load cases in RCD, but i need your helps on few things which i keep on facing some difficulties

1.I can't import load combination from analysis file in RCDC.

2.After Opening Staad file generated by SFA i saw selfweight is included in both primary load cases "Dead load " and "Live load"

And the units has changed to English units instead of metric is it possible to convert them into metric?

3.Can i do beam offset in the generated Staad file from SFA and then return this model to SFA to design my MAT which the beam is now adjusted its position as shown in the picture below

4.In SFA beam can only be connected between column but in my model i need my beam to go beyond the column to the edge of the footing as shown in the attached picture, is this possible? a red line represent a beam from column to the edge of the footing

5.There are some cases on expansion joint where my beam in the MAT foundation has to carry two columns how can i create such scenario in SFA? The two red lines indicates side faces of the beam
