RAM Connection Upgrade Templates

At some point the syntax changed for a bunch of my connection templates in the .con file.  Is there any automatic conversion process available, or am I out of luck and have to create my templates from scratch?

  • Can you send one for testing? Do you happen to know the original version?

  • Ok, I've uploaded a file that has the original connection templates in it, and I've also added a new template "Test" to the connection group to compare what values are written now, vs what were written previously.  I've been dragging these templates forward for years - they started maybe 8 years ago, but have worked until sometime recently, but I don't know exactly when they broke.

  • Hello TLiebhold,

When editing the *.con file in excel and save it using excel, most of the times, excel will save the items that start with a number with extra double quotation marks. You can check this if after saving the file in excel you open it in any text editor.

The bolts are saved as “3/4”” A325 N” (Incorrect) but should have been saved as 3/4” A325 N (Correct). This makes the file corrupt as RAM Connection or RAM Elements will not find these modified names in their databases.

In order to avoid this, once you have done all changes in excel please select all cells copy them, open the file in any text editor and replace its content there (copy/paste). This will prevent the file to be corrupted.

In the case of your file the corrupted names were in the template names, bolts, anchors, and anchor coordinates.

What we did to fix the template was to open it in an editor, look for the extra quotation marks and delete them.

Attached you can find the modified with all fixed.

  • As your templates were created some version ago, the new variables for the new connectors added in the recent versions do not exist (i.e. plate, bolts, welds etc.). So if you use them for the same type of braces for which you create them, they will work but for the new ones, they will fail. If you need to add the new variables you just need to edit the template in RAM Connection (or RAM Connection for RSS or in RAM Elements ) as follows.

    1. In Connections template dialog, select the template to edit or modify and double click o press edit button from the side buttons.

    2. When editing the connection template it will prompt you the errors it has, in this case the weld D is zet as zero for the connectors for HSS braces that are relatively new.

    3. Once all errors are fixed save the template and you can use them as required.

We have done this for you attached below. Could you please try with this.
