Hi There,
I designed some columns in Ram SS for a particular model. However, the software has specified a baseplate thickness of about 1500mm even though the ultimate load on the base plate summed up to about 109kN. Is there something I might be missing? I have checked the model and my input data look fine to me. I have attached a screen shot of the result. If any more information is required, I will be happy to provide.
Thank you
Something seems to be wrong for all Canadian steel codes in base plate design. Investigating. Meanwhile we do have complete base plate design with support for CSA S16-14 in Ram Connection.
The issue was previously logged, but not fixed yet (Re: Defect 566024: Canada Baseplate large thickness).
In my testing the problem seems to happen only at low values of Plate Fy (set under Criteria - Base Plates). Once I go up to something like 300 N/mm^2 it's reasonable. There must be a material threshold that causes the design Fy to get rounded down. We see this other aspects of Steel design using CSA due to section classification.
