Hi,
I 'd like to design a beam - column connection with a fin plate welded to CHS column and bolted to the web of a UC.
Is it something that can be done using the built in connections design tool in Staad pro because I didn't manage to find it as an option.
Please see the file attached.
Another question about the connections, if you could help. At the same file, I have designed the UC's connections as beam-girder end plate connections. Connections pass all checks but I got a warning about lateral torsional which seems logical. When I tick the relevant button, the warning disappears and the connections becomes green ( pass). May I ask you what does the program assume when I tick this button? Is it that the connections to the ends provide lateral restraint to the bottom flange? If I need to add further restraint to the centre of the beam t reduce the Lcr how do I put this section to the underside of the beam section? I've used the section position but it doesn't seem to work.
thanks,

There seems to be some material assignment issues in your model. As I see the model was created by the Physical Modeler and for some reasons the material assignment does get through to the Connection Design workflow correctly. I am wondering which STAAD.Pro version were you using to create this model? I was able to properly assign the material by dropping the link with the Physical Modeler and then assigning the material to the members in the Analytical Modeler. Once this was done, I then was able to successfully assign the BCW Fin Plate connection (EC3 database) to the Beam - Column node. This warning tells that you need to manually check the beam's overall stability due to the section reduction of notched part. Checking the 'Continuous lateral restraint option' tells the program that all beam is supported laterally so lateral torsion buckling cannot occur and hence the warning is not reported anymore.
Not sure why but every time I open the staad pro physical model, I get warnings about the material properties that they are not assigned to the sections although I have run the analysis successfully without any warnings. So every time I open a staad pro model, I get the same warnings and every time I assig the materials to all sections again. This happens to all models. I use the staad pro connect V22 Update 7. Any idea how can this be fixed?

Update 7 is quite old and many enhancements/fixies had been made in the Physical Modeler since then. I would suggest you to upgrade to the most recent STAAD.Pro CE V22 Update 11 (22.11.00.156) and try again.
