When you assign the member release specification to the member, the moments on the specific degrees of freedom are released and no moments are transferred. I.e. if you assign MZ member release, it means that moment about the local Z axis is not transferred to another member, so the member is pinned in that direction. By default, all degrees of freedom are fixed in STAAD.Pro for each member, so if you want to model pinned connections, you need to assign member releases.
