Hello,
I am designing a braced frame base connection, with gusset plate welded the base plate and column flange. The column web is failing in shear.
1. The force calculated by RAM C seems very large compared to what my hand calcs show. Is there any documentation as to what RAM C is doing in calculating the shear demand at the column. see attached image.
2. RAM C seems to place the work point at the bottom of the base plate. Can the user change that to the top of the base plate or any distance above the base plate?

You can adjust the wpy (Work Point vertical displacement) in the connection pad:
For your other question I probably need to see he file as the demand relates to the input forces, the slope and the design code.
Thanks Seth. See attached. RAM is calculating 133.49 kips shear at the column due to the connection brace force transfer, I used DG29 for the similar geometry and came up with something like 70 kips. Let me know what source and method RAM is using to calculate this force. I changed the file extension to .bak so I can upload it here. Please change it to .rcnx and use it.
Connection file.bak
I changed the Wpy to 1.5" to make it on top of the base plate. That is why the number look different now. But the question remains.
If you use the "View formulas" button in the report it will expand and show all the intermediate calculations for Beta, and r that are used in calculating Vc.
