Hello,
I am designing an existing building being retrofitted for vertical brace, I added the concrete pedestal in the model just to see the maximum node displacement result. Due to this, STAAD output now show an extreme soft storey for pedestal location. Reading questions related to soft storey check, the advice is usually to upsize column or add bracing/shear wall however I cannot do that in this situation. Please advise if I can ignore the extreme soft storey result at Elev.3.20M in my STAAD Output or remove the concrete pedestal from my analysis altogether instead.

Concrete pedestals are providing high lateral stiffens. You may try removing them.
Dsanju, thanks for the response however this is an already existing structure so I cannot change concrete pedestal or steel column sizes. What I can do is just add brace above the pedestal (at elev 3.2M). Can i just ignore the soft storey result or do i need to remove the concrete pedestal from my analysis?
You need to increase the lateral stiffness of the frames. You need to use higher column sections.
