1: Can RCDC design RCC columns for torsion effect (torsional moment or moment about longitudinal axis) ?
2: As per which clause of Indian code used for the same, as Indian clause not clearly say for design of columns for torsion.
3: Does RCDC incorporate the effect of torsion in combined interaction ratio or utility ratio ?
Hi,
RCDC do not design column for torsion. As you rightly mentioned, there are no clear guidelines to design of column for torsion moment.
1:Can staad pro design RCC column for torsion ?
2 do staad incorporate effect of torsion in combined interaction ratio?
It depends on Code. For ACI code Yes, Indian Code No.

If the RCC beam is subjected to heavy axial load and biaxial moment, then the RCDC design that beam as a column as per above snap, than why not vice versa process is applied for column as per IS 456 clause 41.3 and 41.4 by taking value of equivalent moment and shear, and design the column for torsion for that value of equivalent shear and moment ? and design the longitudinal and lateral reinforcement for the same ?
Is this approach correct?
Thank you for your suggestions.
The column to be designed for torsion. I would request you to this requirement on IDEA section which is available on Bentley communities. STAAD Brand Ideas Portal (aha.io)
