Hi, I'm using RAM SS for the spread footing design under gravity loads.
RAM SS have an option to design the footing based on the full soil pressure.
However, I only provided the allowable bearing pressure in RAM.
How does RAM convert allowable bearing pressure to ultimate bearing pressure? What is the load factor that is applied to the pressure for the strength design?
Thanks.
I don't usually recommend this approach. The load factors are calculated by taking the ratio of the factored and unfactored column axial force, this is similar for spread and pile cap foundations when this approach is used. Also note, the method is only used when the design loads include no moments.
