How does RAM Concept account for compression reinforcement when doing creep deflection calculations during a time history analysis? For reference, I'm using RAM Concept V8.4 and using ACI 209.2R-08 for the creep/shrinkage model.
Is Concept calculating the factor from Eq 3-10 in ACI 209.2R for each element? If so, how is Concept applying it?
All I could find in the manual was that compression steel is always considered but it's not clear how. Thanks!
Equation 3-10 is a rough approximation that is convenient for design but may be subject to significant error in certain situations. See the ACI 435R-20 document for more information.
RAM Concept dose not use this calculation. Instead, the program completes rigorous curvature calculations considering the creep and shrinkage strains and all reinforcement intersecting the cross section, including compression reinforcement. More on those calculations can be found in the journal article that can be download here.
That journal article was very helpful. Thanks for the response!
