Direct Analysis Method Screencast

I learned in another structural engineering forum that there is a STAAD.PRO Direct Analysis Method Screencast that explains how STAAD handles the DAM.  How can I access this screencast?
  • Thank you very much for your assistance.  I'll have to notify our IT group that we need an updated version.
  • There's also a link to the transpcript, if that is of any help. I am in the process of converting those videos to a more common flash format (including sub-titles) for better access. So please check back if you were having issues with video playback on your computer.

Yes, STAAD.Pro does factor the analysis results by 0.625 (=1 / 1.6) for ASD. I failed to mention this in the screencast and I appreciate you asking. This is true for all STAAD.Pro versions since 2007.03 which implemented the AISC direct analysis method. Please refer to section 5.37.5 of the STAAD.Pro Technical Reference manual for additional information

  • Hi Bendog,

    Yes. STAAD does that.

If you are doing DIRECT ANALYSIS I would suggest that you use a later version than 20.07.04.xx. The latest version released is 20.07.06.23. In addition there is a release that is coming up in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks,

    Sye

  • Jason,

Thanks for the link.  I was unable to watch the video but I did listen to the audio.  I was able to catch the fact that in the analysis for ASD that the loads are factored by 1.6.  But according to Appendix 7 the results are to be divided by 1.6 to obtain the required strengths.  Does STAAD do this ?

    I am using STAAD.PRO.V8i  Release 20.07.04.11

  • Hi Bendog,

You can view that screencast and others on the Bentley Structural Team blog.

Here's a direct link to the STAAD.Pro Direct Analysis screencast.

Be sure to keep coming back to Be Communities for the latest content and help from your peers!
