Where are STAAD auto load combinations stored?

Hello, This has happened a couple of times: I spend the time to edit STAAD's rules for its automatic load combination generator to get it just right (I'm in Canada and STAAD's implementation of the Canadian combinations is way too crude). Then the next time I update to the latest build of STAAD, it overwrites the program files and I lose all my nicely edited combinations. Can someone please tell me where I can find the file that contains the auto load combinations so that I can set it aside the next time I do a STAAD update? Thanks in advance... Dave

  • Dave,

Mine are saved in SPROV8i\STAAD\Language\USEnglish folder.  From there, you just need to surf through the sea of ini files to find the ones that you have customized.  I usually make a trivial edit to one of the tables, then click Update Table, save, close, and sort these ini files by Date so that the most recently edited table floats to the top.

I assume that your directory structure will be the same or at least similar, being that you are my neighbor to the north!

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Chris, Perfect! Yes, the directory structure was exactly the same and I found the file right away. This leads to another issue though. Now that I was able to find the file containing my auto load rules, I decided to copy it over to the corresponding directory on my laptop. However, when I run STAAD on my laptop and try to use the auto load combination feature, my set of rules (called "OBC 2006") doesn't show up in the list of codes. Apparently there's more to it than just dropping the OBC 2006Load.ini file in the appropriate directory. How do I get STAAD to recognize it? Dave
  • If you're going to create a new code like that, then that gets registered in another file called Codes.ini, which is stored in exactly the same place.  Try copying that one over to the laptop and see if you can find your OBC code then.

  • Chris, Thanks for the quick reply. While I was waiting I tried something else and it works too. You just go into the auto load combination editor and select "New Code" and type in the exact name of the code and then STAAD will recognize it. Incidentally, if I sent you my rules file, would you pass it along to the software developers for possible implementation? As it stands right now, STAAD doesn't have any implementation of the latest Canadian code (NBC 2005). My rules would need to be peer reviewed but I'm sure they're a good start and much better than nothing! Just let me know what you think. Thanks again... Dave
  • That makes good sense, too, because that's a faster way of modifying the Codes.ini on the laptop to match the one that I was going to have you copy over manually.

Thanks for the offer to share the file with the developers.  I checked with them, and they would be happy to use your file as a starting point for enhancing the existing combos.  You can send it to me if you'd like, and I will forward it to the appropriate folks.

    Cheers,

    Chris
