STAAD (X)

We haven't heard much on the STAAD(X) front since the last version was released.  Back in December 2008?

How is it coming along?  When is the next release?  How will the capabilities compare to STAAD Pro?

 Inquiring minds want to know.

  • Hello everyone,

I appreciate the comments and your interest in STAAD(X). Counter to perception, these comments are considered seriously at Bentley and have been the subject of much debate.

As we make a generational shift in product [lines], the temptation is to wait until everything is 100% complete and then launch. In this case we chose to do a technology preview to try solicit input and advice, not just on what’s missing relative to the current STAAD(X) (hopefully we know these things), but to engage our users and possible ones to and get your feedback on everything from functionality, ease of use, reporting, UI, interoperability, etc. Hopefully you can look at these versions (that, granted, they should be coined technology previews as opposed to betas) and give us your feedback and input.

We are working towards a Fall major update release for STAAD(X) and we welcome all comments towards the goal of producing something truly exceptional.

Feel free to contact me privately for any questions you might have about STAAD(X). Thank you!

  • What exactly is the intent with STAAD(X)?

Is this "...a generational shift in product " as F_Diego mentioned or ".... a viable alternative for STAAD.Pro users.", as Kris noted in other post? Are both programs suppose to co-exist and receive equal support from Bently or only staad (x) has a future? And what about licences (Ram_staad quesiont is remains un-answered).

I read other posts on the web about staax(x) - after few incarnations it appears far from ready for everyday use. But then, how much time we have to wait to bring staad(x) to the level of staad pro?...and subsequently to the level of competitors?

  • Hi sasa3k. It is both... the next generation and an alternative. Let me explain. STAAD(X) is Bentley’s next generation for general purpose analysis and design software. As you mention, it is not ready yet and that is why not offered openly for sale. The version you can download from SELECT is an old build intended for STAAD.Pro users that wanted to try out some of the features in STAAD(X). The final version of STAAD(X) is expected to be in or around May 2014.

From that point on and until all the functionality available in STAAD.Pro is not available in STAAD(X), both products will coexist and recieve equal treatment and support from Bentley.

  • Many thanks for the update Diego; also for a fixed time span for the release of package.

Will it be possible for us to download a beta version? And by that I mean a package more recent than the one released on May 2010.

It's taken quite a while from it's impending release on 2010. I sincerely hope the package is worth the wait.

  • Version 08.02.02.75 came out in August 2012. While I agree it's not ready for prime time I don't know that they are calling it a beta version.

  • Thanks Diego.

What is a rationale to have three products (staad, staad(x), ram) that are essentially the same? They all have to be maintained, supported, upgraded, end so on.

From the standpoint of an average user like myself, I would rather see one (1) product that is working, and its up to current standards instead of three.

  • Ram_STAAD, trust me, it will be worth the wait.

If you click on my name (F_Diego) you will see an option to e-mail me at the top right of your screen. Send me your contact info privately and I will add you to our Beta testers list. That Beta will not be ready until early 2014 though.

The 2010 release you mentioned, is explained already in previous posts from me.
