can anyone help me with designing a column resting on a beam. actuallly i need to erect a column in between the span of a primary beam running on two regular grids, so that i can have a lifted slab for my water tank.
To erect a column at some intermediate points of a beam, at first you have to create a node at that location. For this, select the beam and right click. Choose the option "Insert Node" and create a node on the beam at the respective location.
Then, go to the Geometry menu on top, and choose "Add Beam" option and choose "Add beam from point to point".
thank you for the post but i am not sure if this will take care of shear and other parameters in the beam to which the column rests.....
the beam will take care of the shear from column. See also that if the column is about <H from the face of the support the design will fall as a deep beam or used the strut and tie methodology to design it...
What I feel that reply needs some more clarity. Provision of stool column should be avoided as far as possible. If it is inevitable it should be provided in the as shown in the sketch enclosed.
I am re enclosing the sketch[
