Architectural Unit Entry in STAAD

Is there a way to enter a dimension into a dialog in staad.pro in architectural units rather than converting to decimal feet (assuming I'm working in FEET)?

For example, How could I enter 1' 2-3/4" in architectural rather than converting to decimal feet and entering 1.229167' ?

Thanks for the help,

Aaron

  • STAAD.pro does not provide for mixed unit entry like feet and inches.

You can work in either feet or inches, however, and you can change the units on the fly. Inside of most any dialog box you can press the F2 function key to access the active unit converter. For details, see the User Interface help topic “Units in STAAD.pro” under Fundamentals. There is also a Unit Converter under the Tools menu should you need it.

  • I know many Staad users use SI units, and I totally support it -- I would love to skip the conversion.  However, I live in a land built on a standard 4'x8' sheet of plywood.  Is there any way to request mixed-unit data entry for future Staad versions?

Thanks for the reply.  The F2 shortcut comes in handy some times.

  • The STAAD.Pro data file does work with basic length and force units (other units such as pressure, distributed force, etc are derived).  These can be changed throughout the file, even chaged from metric to English if required.    On top of that the GUI does allow you to change specific units which can be useful at times by going to the menu item View>Options where the Structure, Force and Section units can be set.  However in doing so you may find that th GUI will attempt to rationlise these and your data file if the file is resaved.
