Quick question about the API design parameter:
API-RP-2A-WSD 3.1.1 states "Unless otherwise recommended the platform should be designed so that all members are proportioned for basic allowable stresses specified by the AISC Specification for the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings, latest edition"
If I set up my model to code check the entire structure to API will STAAD determine which sections should be designed to AISC (such as I-beam) or do I have to set up two parameters, one for API and one for AISC? I assumed that STAAD would automatically calculate non tubular and conical sections to AISC; however, when I veiw the output file it appears that the "critical condition" only lists API equations no matter the section type.
can someone please advise, Thanks,
-Matt
STAAD does use the AISC equations to check for non-tubular sections - actually the corrsponding equation to the API, which is ebing reported. We have posted an issue with the developers to change the reference to the AISC.
