I've created a shape of a wide flange with a plate welded on top in the section wizard. I've imported it into STAAD and assigned it to the necessary members. STAAD analyzes it just fine, but when I close the file and reopen it, STAAD does not recognize the user table and gives me an error. I have to redefine the user table and reassign the member property every time I reopen the file.
I have a possible related issue as well. After I reestablish my user defined table, assign properties and analyze the structure, a whole bunch of member properties appear in my properties window. It looks like all the additional member properties listed are ones that STAAD picked during my "SELECT" command, but none are applied to the structure. It also lists numerous more instances of my built up section as defined in the user table.
Is there a reason why I have to reestablish the user table and reassign the built up section every time I reopen the file? Is there a way around that? Or am I doing something incorrectly? Also, why are there so many more sections listed in my properties window after I analyze? Is it just because of the "SELECT" command? If so, why are there 10 extra instances of my built up section listed?
Any information you have would be great! Thanks!

Is the user table data residing within the STAAD input file, or did you save it to an external file?
If it is in an external file, is that file located in the same folder as the STAAD input file? If the answer is No, try moving it to the same folder. You can also specify the path (to that external file) inside the STAAD input file, but that is more tedious.
If this doesn't work, upload the input file and user table file, and we can take a look. Or, please submit a service ticket at

Please refer to the attached models. In structure1.std file, an external .upt table is used in this model. InDemo_1.std file, information of .upt file is copied and pasted in user table as mentioned below.

While opening this model, you do not require the .upt file. You may use this methodology.
