RAM - Steel Column design won't run.

I have set up a model in RAM. It is A steel frame sat on an RC base.

I have run the data check and there are no errors or warnings.

I have run the steel beam design and it has given me section sizes.

However, every time I try to run the steel column design, the program

crashes.

I have ended up splitting the model between the Steel and RC and analyzing

and designing separately, but should I have to do this?

  • It should not be required to split a model to run the steel column design. Even our Tutorial does such a thing.

Here are a couple of tests that could help to isolate the problem.

    1. Check if the 3D view works for the full model. If the 3D view also crashes, then the problem is in representing the 3D graphics of the model (maybe a bad slab edge or opening).

    2. If the 3D view works and the Column module opens but crashes during design-all, check another code to see if it's a code-specific problem. That might indicate some code component was not properly installed, for example.

    3. Finally, if the program crashes during design all, try using View/Update a couple of different columns so see if there is some particular framing or circumstance that fails or if all the columns are a problem.

Either way, it’s best to log a service ticket an upload the file for review. You can drop the file onto our ftp site below, then reply with the specific File Name. Please note, the ftp site is an open drop box, anyone can drop or paste files there but you cannot see the contents.

    • For RAM Structural System files, the File – Zip model feature can be used to purge the model of some extraneous results files making for a smaller file.
