We just had a separate exchange, but in STAAD.Pro you have change the STAAD.Pro units configuration to affect Ram Connection units.

sir hi, i have applied S.I units changes in RAM connections but my previous model( model i was working with inches ) showing units in inches only ??

can i change units in running ram coonection???

Should you ever need it again, the working directory path is one line in the ramis.ini file, located here: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Engineering\RAM Structural System

Just change the path - but the working directory should always be local (i.e. C:\)

I don't know if this intended or not, but apparently, opening the .rss file in RAM Structural again clears out whatever is going on so that it opens up fine in Connection again. So never mind, I guess.

I don't know that Microsoft is one to emulate except for producing lessons in frustration via "how much of the UI can we completely change from version to version?" ;-) I'm just glad to see the help pdf getting updated somewhat with version 8. On the topic of "hidden settings", where is the "working directory" defined? Connection 8 keeps locking up when I try to design braced frame gusseted base plates (7.2 did the same), and the only way to unlock it is to kill it through Windows. When I try to open up that file again, it tells me that there is already a file with that name in my working directory and that I need to delete or rename it. What does it consider the working directory? The job folder on our network drive where the original file was opened from? Or is this some folder buried in RAM program folders on my local hard drive? Can't reopen the file to work on it until I get this resolved. Thanks!

Indeed, that little control is hard to find, the idea was to mimic the ribbon menu "settings" that you see in Microsoft products.

Thanks Seth, I was able to find it yesterday afternoon after I posted this.

I also had trouble figuring out where to change the method from LRFD to ASD. Its very well hidden under that drop down arrow on the design ribbon, in the assignment portion of the ribbon.

Bottom right hand corner of the main window, you should see "English" or "Metric" or "SI". Pick that drop down arrow to change or configure the units. It's under the "Units configuration" that you select default for new files.
