Hello there,
I am trying to model and analyse a Culvert as a PLANE frame in STAAD by considering unit width of a culvert for analysis.
At the bottom I need to assign spring supports for soil interaction. So, I defined an elastic support, split the bottom beam into nodes and assigned this support to them. Now, when I run the analysis, this error appears-
* ERROR 0550* Support joints are collinear
Does this mean that we can not use this support type to nodes on a line? Or is there any other way? I am also not sure about the procedure that I followed to assign these supports.
Could you plz help to sort this out? At first instance, is it okay to assign spring support to nodes on a beam and not to the nodes forming a plate?
I have also attached STAAD file.
Cheers.
So they still don’t have spring supports after these years@@
Spring supports can be defined in the software. You need to use the FIXED BUT type supports to define springs.
So I encounter the same situation, want to reflect the reaction on the bottom slab.
Is there any way to create a beam spring that can assign the reaction with in the span?
Split the beam into segments. Define springs at each node of the beam and you would get the reactions at each support after you analyze.
