I am trying to import SmartPlant 3D Structural model to STAAD.Pro through CIS/2 translator. I am able to import steel sections of Indian Section library. But I am unable to import Rectangular Section (Prismatic member not available in STAAD Section

Re: SmartPlant 3D- STAAD.Pro interface through CIS/2 translator

Yes Concrete data is generated in STP file but since rectangular section is not available is STAAD section Database, its secton profile is not getting imported in STAAD.
They offer a tool that converts CIS/2 files to VRML which can be viewed through a number of browsers (some free) and running in an internet browser. cic.nist.gov/.../vbdetect.html

I use their tools to visually inspect the contents of CIS/2 files.

Re: SmartPlant 3D- STAAD.Pro interface through CIS/2 translator

Thanks Seth for your response.

Yes as mentioned by you we can import Concrete prismatic member in STAAD. It get written in CIS/2 file, but it is not imported since it is not available in section database.

What is " NIST VRML Translator with Cosmo Viewer".

Re: SmartPlant 3D- STAAD.Pro interface through CIS/2 translator

CIS/2 in inherently a steel data transfer file. I tested a stp file created from another application and populated with some Concrete rectangular columns, however, and confirmed that those sections do import into STAAD.pro 20.07.09.31. I saw a units conversion issue in my test, but that could have been user error. The first thing to do is confirm the concrete section data is in the .stp file created by SmartPlant (you can scan the text, or use a generic viewer like the NIST VRML Translator with Cosmo Viewer).
