Why is Staad pro modifying input file after 2-3 analysis and/or closing/opening a file?

Hello

I am using Staad Pro v8i. I am designing a building with multiple frames and bays. I have added point loads at each node for every floor. After running fine for 2-3 times; Staad modifies the input file in such a way that the same load is applied on multiple nodes; though I had specifically added different loads at different nodes.

EG: 13 FY -100

2 TO 12 FY -200

1 FY -300

CHANGES TO

2 TO 13 FY -100

1 TO 12 FY -200

1 FY -300

  • Hello Maanit,

No I have not received the file . If you want it to be confidential, you may use the secure link to upload the file . Or email it to us .

    Thanks,

  • Hello Mannit,

I analyzed the file but didn’t come up with  this problem. Can you elaborate on it ?

Which load case and exactly which node number?

    Are you talking about

    LOAD 2

    JOINT LOAD

    13 FY -3.59

    4 TO 12 FY -10.16

I could not find any load  corresponding to  13 FY -100 and 2 to 12 FY -200.

  • This problem comes and goes. It will note show up in some iterations. After running the program a few times; the input file modifies itself. It generally happens after I close and then reopen the file.

The loads/nodes I had stated in my 1st question were examples; not exact values.

  • The only times that a file is modified are

    a) When you Save the file from the STAAD.Pro GUI

    b) When you save the file from the STAAD.Pro editor.

Since the editor is merely a text editor, it will save the file exactly as any editor does. So, the file can get modified/ corrupted only if you type the wrong data.

On the other hand, in case (a), a modification that results in the introduction of an error or an unwanted change can happen if there is an error in the program.

If you find that the file has been modified in a manner that you did not expect, do the following.

If you have kept a copy of the correct version of the file, send us that file and the corrupted file. We will try to duplicate the problem here and track down the error.

As for the model that you attached, we opened it in the GUI, did a Save As, compared the original with the Saved As version, and did not notice any change. A few tests we have performed on other files does not reveal an error. So, unfortunately, the information you have sent is not sufficient to detect the problem.

  • I have uploaded 2 files through the secure file upload. These show the differences.

The original file is the correct version. The 2nd file is the one that Staad changed automatically. Changes can be seen under the joint loads for Dead, Live, Roof Live and Seismic loads. At all 4 places; Staad has automatically changed the original file and added extra nodes to the same load.

These changes were seen after I closed and reopened the Staad file after a few minutes.

Can you take a look at both these files?
