dear all.
i want to ask about the RATIO command in API code in Staad pro v8i.
i use Staad Pro v8i SERIES 4. in AISC, the RATIO command means "Permissible ratio of actual to allowable stress". but in API, it says "Permissible ratio of applied loading to section capacity".
AISC
API
i did study to compare using the RATIO command under API code.
case 1 : i use RATIO 2.06
case 2 : RATIO 1 (default)
it's the same staad file. but when i change the RATIO to default, the actual ratio shows totally different from case 1.
anyone know why this is happen ?
basically if i use the RATIO command under AISC code, it won't show any different actual ratio. only the normalized ratio.
thank you.
The design per the API code in Staad is divided in two parts (1) the member design (2) The joint design.
The member design is the stress based approach and the joint design is the capacity based approach.
Now, the dialogue box should have displayed something generic message like "Max allowable design ratio"
which holds good for both the cases.
However, regarding the display of substantially high normalized ratio, could you please send us the model ?
Mr. Biswa, thank you for your reply.do you know how the RATIO command work in API ? is it same as the RATIO command in AISC ?
here i attach my sample model. there are 2 files which has different value in RATIO.
