Combatibilty Issues between STAAD PRO V8i SELECT SERIES 4 and STAAD OFFSHORE.

dear friends,

we are facing big combatibilty issues between STAAD PRO & STAAD OFFSHORE. some of the use facilities available in staad pro is not at all regonized by STAAD OFFSHORE. Because of this combatibility issues we are facing lots of problem. we are really losing lot of time in researching whether it considered all in staadpro or not. below or available in staad pro not working in staad offshore. Please kindly help us if any one solves this issue.

List of commands not reconsied by staad offshore.

1.Section propery table for pipes

2.fire proofing loads in specification

3. Repeat load

4. Notional load

5. Referense loads

6. Load factors applied in selfweight commands.

7.Floor/Area loads

there may be other issues but right now we figured out these issues.

Please kindly let us know if any body know how to solve this

Regards

Bagmass

  • Just to ensure that we are on the same page, here is a how the integration is supposed to work.

STAAD.Offshore is basically a load generator program that generates loading due to wave on structures that are created using STAAD.Pro. It can generate wave loads and create load cases which can subsequently be taken to STAAD.Pro for analysis. So the typically you would create the geometry in STAAD.Pro. Having loads ( primary, REPEAT, notional, reference etc ) defined in the STAAD file is optional and of course there is no harm if you do. The model geometry can then be taken into STAAD.Offshore ( not the loads ) which can generate the wave loading on the geometry based on the wave definitionsin the Offshore program. Subsequently one can ask STAAD.Offshore to generate the STAAD file ( staad_model_name_WAVE.std ) which would contain the wave loads generated by Offshore. Inside the WAVE.std file, the original loads that you defined in STAAD.Pro would be there and wave loads generated by the Offshore program would be appended as additional load cases. If you have load cases defined in your original STAAD.Pro model, just ensure that the starting load case number for the wave loads in Offshore program is specified in such a way that there is no overlap. The _Wave.std file can then be analyzed in STAAD.Pro with all loads including the wave loads.

Now coming to your question, when you say STAAD.Offshore is not recognizing the loads defined in STAAD.Pro are you expecting to see these loads after opening the .std file from within STAAD.Offshore ? If so, then that is not way the software is intended to work. If you are facing some other problem, please explain in a little more detail and we will investigate further.

  • Dear Sye

Thanks for your kind reply. I will first explain what we are doing and then explain you the problem so that you can help us to solve the issue. We are generating Model (module to be transport) using staad pro. then we are applying loads based on our weight control report. Some of the applied loads we are factoring it to some X values using Repeat loads, few loads direction we are change directions for COG calculation purpose.

finally all dead weight from all discipline we are combine using one primary case using repeat load to match weight report.

Then this model we are importing to staad offshore to get INERTIAL loading at each joints, using transport module generator.

Our problem is when we import all dead loads to offshore for Mass modeling to get inertia load. Only the physical loads applied (point load, udl etc.) can be imported to offshore but not the repeat load/Notional/Reference Load cases informations.

I made a small "T support" Staad model, applied different masses using physical loading and then Repeat load with factors with all possibilites of commands I am going to use in my real model. This excersice done to compare manually the results from offshore transport inertia loads. we get results exactly for physically applied loads and not for repeat other load commands.

I personally using STAAD Pro more than 15 years and I loved it for its user friendly environment for modeling as well as loading/analysis. some of the wonderful features like Repeat load/Notional/Reference loads etc

which reduced our work a lot. Now if its not supported in Offshore means then all repeated loads with some

factors we need to manually calculate and apply physically in staad pro then import to staad offshore. this will

unneccesarrily creates loads of hour in applying loads

That is the reason why we are raising our query in this forum, may be STAAD offshore/Staad pro Experts or Developer may guide us to solve this issues as we are not much familiar with STAAD Offshore. as we are trying this software First time .

My intention here now is not to blame the software just to use the facility in staad pro to Offshore.

Looking forward for your kind reply and support. thanks in advance.
