Hi,
I am using STAAD.Pro V8i (SELECTseries 4) 20.07.09.11.
I am not sure if there is some issues with the way that I set up my STAAD.Pro on my computer, but I cannot change the units and decimal points on STAAD Output and Steel Design Details report (Postprocessing-->Reports-->Under "Output" categories-->Steel Design Detail). The standard unit displayed was mixture of "INCH" in "Properties" section, "FT" in "length", "KIP INCH" in "Parameter" and "Stresses" section, "KIP-FEET" in "Max Force/Moment Summary" and "Design Summary". I also noticed that the "Ratio" in the Steel Design Detail is not matching decimal points, e.g. STAAD Output will have "0.941" as ratio but on the Postprocessing report, it will have "9.410E-1" displayed.
I would like to change all displayed units in Steel Design Details to INCH POUND. Is there a way to change the units displayed for the Steel Design Details (after input TRACK 2 syntax in the STAAD Editor)? Is there anyway to ensure units and decimal place consistancy in both output and post processing report for the Steel Design Detail?
Thank you.
Try changing the Base Unit from the Configuration option. Also make sure that you have both read and write permissions to the file StaadPro20070.ini which is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\Engineering\STAAD.Pro V8i SS4\ folder. Basically, it is better to have such rights to all STAAD.Pro v8i SS4 folder.
If your Operating System is Windows 7, then StaadPro20070.ini file will be located in C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Engineering\STAAD.Pro V8i SS4\
Shayan,
Thanks for the feedback.
However, I am referring to changing unit for the Code Checking and Steel Design Details (shown in below screenshot (also available from "Postprocessing"-->"Reports"-->"Steel Design Details" under "Output" category. Different units are underlined in red). I have tried your suggestion to changed the configuration (there are only 2 options: "English", "Metric") and ensure that I have read and write permission for the files you mentioned.
However if this is the best that STAAD.Pro can do is what you suggested (it seems that the units are fixed), then I will have to live with it. Please advise.
Thanks.

Hello,
The design output can be obtained either in Metric or in the English system.
The screenshot that you have attached shows the design output in the English system . If you want to change to metric system, insert the command : UNIT METER KN before the CHECK CODE command.
Please see the attached screenshot.
Thanks for your feedback.
It seems that the units in standard Metric or English system are fixed and can not be changed, right? E.g (referring to your screenshot) In the "Stress" section, the NEWTON MMS cannot be changed to NEWTON METRE, right?
You do not have to change it. You can edit the staadpro20070.ini file mentioned earlier by Shany and add a new entry for NEWTON METRE. Make sure you exit STAAD.pro before you do that.
Hi Kris/Shayan,
Thanks for the feedback again.
I would appreciate if you could advise the syntax for creating new entry in the "staadpro20070.ini" file. I noticed that there are a lot of entries in my .ini file and I am not sure how/where to enter/modify the units syntax in the .ini file so that the units in "Steel Design Details" will show the units that I want.
If your intention is to obtain results such as stresses in the Beam-Stresses page or Plate-Contour page in Newton and METER units, N/m2 is already available as one of the choices under View - Options - Force Units - Stress.
For the item under Reports called Steel Design Detail, the program doesn't offer the user much flexibility in terms of the units. The facility described in the above paragraph cannot be used to get output in the desired units for Steel Design.
