I am designing a bottom ash hopper. They want to model the hopper as plate elements and apply normal as well as tangential pressures on plates due to stored ash. i have calculated the pressure at different depths and have applied the normal pressures. Can anybody tell me how to apply tangential pressures on plate elements.

Apply tangential pressures along the LX and LY directions described in options 3 and 4 in section 5.32.3.1 of the Technical Reference manual.

You can simulate the tangential plate load as Pressure on Full Plate acting in local Y or X in the scope of STAAD.Pro.
