merging files

why wiki says that, select all will do this, this should be reported that this information method inaccurate.  staad group should take out this and revise and make comment what it does.  it uses lots of manhours from the user ...

  • The simplest way to ensure good merging of files is as follows:

    1. Ensure same coordinates in geometry. For example, if first model is at First floor, assign Y coordinates correspondingly (say 3m level) and if the second model is the Second Floor assign Y of 3m + First floor height (say 6.5 m). The two models should also have X and Y coordinates matching (If one model is first floor and the next model is second floor, each node of a particular column will have the same X and Y coordinates

    2. Ensure different numbering for both models. For example, first model has nodes 1 to 40 and beams 1 to 30, second model can have nodes 101 to 140 and beams 101 to 130.

    3. Ensure similar notation for load cases, groups, etc. (Dead load in both models should have same load case number, etc)

    4. Create a copy of the first model, save it as a new model (for the combined model).

    5. Open the new combined model and the second model and open their input files.

    6. Copy and paste each command set from second model to the end of the corresponding command set in the combined model. For example, Joint Coordinates of second model will be copied and pasted at the end of the existing Joint Coordinates list in the new model.

    7. Save and close the new model. Hopefully, there are no errors in the operation.

    Hope that helps
