I am working with some frames that I consider they need to be strengthened with some brackets in the joints of the column and the roof beams (see the attached picture). I know that it is possible in other software like ROBOT.
How can I do it?
Thanks in advance.
Hi afconsult,
You can model the haunch as per pictures below:

Hi again!
I am wondering about if there isn't any other easier way to define this kind of element (called HAUNCH in other software), for example using a defined European steel profile assigned to a beam member.
I would like to use IPE500.
There is no element type “HAUNCH” in STAAD.Pro. A relatively simpler way would be to break the beam and the column into segments where the haunch member is connected and then assign a higher equivalent cross sectional property to those two segments. Alternately you can also model a beam member for the haunch and assign it the IPE500 cross section. Although this would not be a cut section but as far as analysis is concerned, I don't think this would be too bad.
One of the other programs that has an explicit tool for creating haunches is Ram Elements, though the steel design of haunched members there is limited to the BS 5950 and AS 4100 codes.
Hopefully we can get that same functionality into STAAD(X)
how can i design these plates as haunch in Staad Pro?
