Dear Sirs,
Am new to STAAD Pro. I have made a plate model and applied few primary loads and combinations which includes hydrostatic loads, nodal loads etc. when i try to analyse i get following warning message.
WARNING- Load Command line is too long and will be truncated.
I would request you to help me in this and get the problem solved.
With Regards,
Varad
Staad writes a text file with all the parameters of the model, loads etc. which you will need to get involved with using the Staad editor.
The line length for commands in the text file is 79 characters when a line goes beyond this the remaining characters are shown in light grey (using staad editor). To incorporate a command line more the 79 characters you need to find a suitable place to split the command line and use the staad continuation character to tell the program the command continues on the next line, the character is:
-
An example of a combination load case which was too long for a single line would be:
LOAD COMB 101 IN SERVICE LOADS IN -Z NO BERTHING1 1.154 2 0.097 3 -0.75 4 1.154 5 0.097 6 -0.75 7 1.0 15 1.0 23 1.0 27 1.0 -42 1.0 43 1.0 46 1.0 50 1.0
Where the - on it's own is the continuation character.
If you don't edit the text file and split the line as required staad will only read part of the load command during analysis and your results will be affected.

Send us the model please.
For the input, there are 2 options: 72 character width and 70 character width . Go to Command>>Miscellaneous>>Input Width option
You have to restrict your command line to either 72 or 79 characters. If your command line if along one, use the – command to break the continuity of the line and bring over the remaining command to a second line.
This is explained in the above posts.
Thank you very much sir
the cotinuation character doesnt work for load case title and also for load combination title . see the attached file .
i just made a trial .
i have been trying to fix this out as i use a vba code to get my load combination titles so that user can easilty identify ,
i could not include the continutation character as i get warning saying above line contains error

The input width can be up to 79 columns for the line used to add Load or Load Combinations. If your load title is longer than the column width of 79, the characters beyond the 79th column will be grayed out. You will get a warning ( not an Error ) mentioning that the Load Command Line is too long but you will still be able to see the full line in the editor, run the analysis and do everything else with the model. You cannot however use a “–“ at the end of the Load/Load Comb line and continue on to the next line. This would result in errors. The "-" only works for the load items, list of nodes, beams, plates etc.
This is very time consuming when you have large nos. of load combinations. One has to go in editor file and place - after each line. Very very time consuming for engineers. bentley has to do something for that.
