Roof Wind Load

I'm analyzing a shelter made of steel tubes/pipes, that possibly will be covered by some kind of fabric all around. The structure has been modeled as a skeleton of steel tubes and is defined as enclosed for wind load calculation. While using the wind load generation feature in STAAD, I see that the load is being applied on the windward side, but i don't see corresponding loads (under the same load case) on the leeward side or on the roof, i.e., wind forces acting away from the roof or away from the leeward wall, based on the different 'zones' defined in ASCE 7-10. Am I missing an option/toggle in STAAD that would calculate these loads?

Thanks.

  • While defining the wind loading, you will need to define separate wind load types for windward, leeward and side wall. Afterwards during the application of the load as part of the wind Load case, these separate Wind Types can be chosen and can be applied to the relevant portions of the model. STAAD however cannot generate wind loading on the roof and that has to be done manually and added as part of the same wind load case.
