Staad Pro - AISC ASD steel design

Hi everyone!

Where can I find the expression for the parameters "FCZ", "FTZ", "FCY", and "FTY" in AISC ASD regulation?

Thanks!

  • My apologies - there was a mistake in my earlier answer as I had mistakenly assumed FCZ, FTZ, FCY and FTZ as the allowable compression and tension stress. In reality they are allowable bending stresses in compression and tension and are calculated as per the specifications in Chapter F for compact and non-compact sections and as per Appendix F for slender sections.

In chapter F, you will find various equations calculating Fb. This Fb is generally meant to express the allowable compression stress in bending. The maximum possible Fb that can occur in the section with it not being limited by the restraint conditions can be taken as allowable tensile stress in bending.

Some information in this regard is also available in section 2.4.1.1.4 of the Technical Reference Manual.
