• RAM Concrete Beam Fixity at Columns

I am using RAM Concrete beam to design pan joists, and am having issues with two beam lines that are identical in loads, spans, tributary widths, etc. The only difference is that at the end supports of one beam line, the supports are concrete (gravity…
  • Best method for modeling concrete shear wall with pilaster boundary element

I am using RAM SS to evaluate concrete shear walls in an existing building to determine the feasibility of a vertical expansion. All shear walls are 12" thick. Typical single-direction shear walls have 24" X 24" boundary elements on their ends. Boundary…
  • Balanced Load Causing Foundation Uplift

I have a podium PT slab that is causing large balanced load couple reactions on my shear walls and forcing my mat foundations to have significant uplift. The PT slab is designed in RAM Concept and the reactions are exported to our RSS model then exported…
  • RAM Concrete Column - Two Story Column Design (Sway Frame)

Hi, I have a two story concrete column that is unbraced the full height. Looking at the design results the moment magnification factor (delta) for the top story is 3.8 which I was able to verify by hand using ACI 318-14 Eq. 6.6.4.5.2. However the bottom…
  • how to get the loadings details in report????

I have got my report, but there is no loading details like dead load, Wind loads and all... In report settings i have added Loadings, but its not showing.... Wt to do???? i want to see other load details. How to get that details?
  • RE: Gravity Load computation error. Check gravity loads on slab decks

Karl found that the surface load polygon selected below on L1 is causing the problem. I think there is a snap issue with the slab edge or a deck nearby. If I delete it, then the model runs in RAM Concrete.
  • RE: RAM SS Two Story Concrete Wall with Beam

In RAM Structural System, a wall is a load bearing element so we allow you to model a wall or a beam, but not both in a same place on the same plan, so the beams on top of the walls can't be modeled (unless the walls are removed). The walls can be between…
  • RE: RAM Concrete beam not being loaded by slab

If part of the floor slab at that level is two-way, then the whole thing gets meshed and that could cause the behavior you describe. More on two-way slabs here:
  • RE: RAM Structural System - How to get reinforcement drawings for designed elements (Beams, Columns and Footings)

The dxf export options from Manager (or Ram Frame for braced frame elevations) are the only drawings directly created by the program. For some, like concrete beams, there are options whether to generate a schedule or drawings for each beam line. The…
  • RE: RAM Frame vs Concrete for Vertical Forces in Bearing Walls

The Analysis Types technote describes some of the key differences. If that doesn't clarify what's happening in your case, feel free to send it over using the Secure File upload instructions below left.
  • RE: RAM SS Concrete Buttress Design

The column and wall will be linked and the column will be a continuous member through the height of the story, so there is moment fixity at the nodes of the finite element mesh between the stories. There is no way to suppress that, but you can pin the…
  • Unbraced Length Modification RAM Concrete

I have an area of a building that will be built as a 2 story clear space with the future provision for infill. I have my model showing the infill to get the load take down right (instead of point loads at girders/columns). I did this with the assumption…
  • RE: RAM Concrete Beam - Effective Depth used for Deflection Calculations when Reinforcing Continuous at Beam Depth Change

Your images did not come through, but if I understand correctly, you have two consecutive spans that are different depth beams with continuous top bars across the support, but the d value used in the deflection checks is less than expected. Splicing…
  • RE: RAM Concrete Shear Wall

Try deleting and re-assigning the section cuts. If you have coupling beams, you can also try toggling them off and on again. If that does not help, make sure your Ram Frame analysis results are current and OK. You can check deflected shapes or member…
  • RAM SS - Concrete Column Design

I have an issue where I have a concrete column that is shown as failing due to kl/r>100. The code reference for this error is given as 10.13.5. The problem with this is that I'm using ACI318-11, and that is an invalid code reference. In 318-11, 10.13…
  • RE: RAM SS - Reinforcement in Shear Walls

There are two things you can do regarding units and bar diameters. To change the units just go to Ram Manager - Criteria - Units. To change the Rebar table go to Criteria - Concrete Tables and pick a metric form of the Reinforcement table.

  • Adding a column on a beam

I am a relatively new user to RAM SS concrete. I am trying to add a column which sits on a cantilever. RAM SS will not let me do this. There must be some way, any suggestions are appreciated.
  • showing combined reactions in RamConcrete

Hello, I'm a long time RamSteel user, but I'm just starting to use the RamConcrete module. I'm using the program to do a load takedown for a very large, irregular footprint building. RamConcrete seems to have a nice feature/button that shows the…
  • Cracked Section Factors in RAM Modeler

Hi all, this post is almost entirely directed at the Bentley folks, because I want to make sure that RAM SS has been updated to take into account the cracked section factor on slabs as I would assume. From previous emails with Bentley I was informed that…
  • AS 3600 (2009) - What are your thoughts?

This is an open question to those who design to the standards of AS3600. What are your feelings on the 2009 version of the code and how it compares to 2001?
  • RAM SS - Wall transfer

I'm modeling with RAM Structural System v14.06. I know that it is possible to have a column supported by a diaphragm. Is it possible to have a wall supported by a diaphragm and transferred through the (thick) slab to an offset wall below?
  • RAM Concrete Column Spiral Reinforcement

When we have circular columns and I assign them to have spiral reinforcement I keep getting the following design warning; Story 5: Minimum shear spacing limit is greater than maximum limit Story 4: Minimum shear spacing limit is greater than…
  • RamContainer MFC Application

OS: Windows 7 Ram Structural Version: 14.2.2 When viewing in 3D, we selected a concrete beam to view in elevation. A popup error window appeared that said: "RAMContainer MFC Application has stopped working" Re-installing the application fixed…
  • RAM Concrete Column Design

I am just trying to get some opinions on what is done with RAM Structural System and RAM Concrete Column Design. Currently in ACI 318-08 there are three methods for column design. sections 10.10.3, 10.10.4 and 10.10.5, Nonlinear second-order analysis…
