• RAM Concrete Column

I can't seem to find documentation to answer this question. What (EI)eff does RAM use to calculate the critical buckling load, Pc? Is the smallest of the 3 equations from ACI 318-14 equation 6.6.4.4.4 used?
  • RAM Concrete Column Design Loads

I'm designing concrete columns in the RAM Concrete module and the slenderness amplification seems excessive for 1 of the levels. The column demand and design forces are in the images below. Is there something wrong with the calculation or the modeling…
  • RAM Concrete Column Module Will Not Run

So I saw a previous post about how an older version of RAM had this same issue, where the concrete column module would only run the first time the analysis was done and then after that it would crash unless you installed some sort of patch or used a stand…
  • Live Load Reduction not Applied to RAM Reactions and in RCDC

Hello again, I'm having some issues with the integration of RAM and RCDC. I am using the NBC of India. Is Live Load Reduction meant to be applied in RAM to the reactions? It does not appear to be incorporated in the reactions. It appears that…
  • RCDC Shear Forces for Sway not Calculated from RAM Import

Hello, I am using RCDC Advanced Concrete after using RAM for the analysis. I have imported the beam info from RAM after running RAM Frame and RAM Concrete analyses. I am having issues with the V(D+L) and Vu-sway calculation from Skip Positive and…
  • RAM Concrete Shear Wall Module Crashing V17.00.01.09

Hello, I am having an issue where my RAM Concrete Shear Wall Module keeps crashing. I am currently performing iterations for cracked factors on my shear wall, the first iterations with uncracked walls worked fine (assigned section cuts, coupling beams…
  • How can we consider Secondary beam moment behavior while rebar detailing without intermediate supports but connected between many primary beams

Hello, I have few queries related to community hall without internal columns, my attached staad file 1. Main beam is of 17.27m length with size 450X725mm. This continuous beam is shown as passed even though L/d ratio is not meeting however it is satisfying…
  • RAM Element_Special Concrete Wall

How to activate the special concrete wall feature in Ram E.? How to add special boundary and end flanges to a concrete wall in RAM Concrete? Regards.. Hazim
  • Patterning (skip loading) of Live Loads in RAM

I have been doing some extensive reading on these forums and in the help but still don't have clarity, so please help me with a few questions: I am modeling a 4 story reinforced concrete moment frame in RAM and then will export the model to RCDC (Advanced…
  • RAM Concrete Beam Fixity at Columns

I am using RAM Concrete beam to design pan joists, and am having issues with two beam lines that are identical in loads, spans, tributary widths, etc. The only difference is that at the end supports of one beam line, the supports are concrete (gravity…
  • RAM Concrete Shear Wall Crash

When I am in RAM Concrete Shear Wall and I try to create a section cut, the program unexpectedly closes and returns me to the RAM Manager. I do not receive an error message. The RAM Concrete window just completely closes and I am unable to get past this…
  • Best method for modeling concrete shear wall with pilaster boundary element

I am using RAM SS to evaluate concrete shear walls in an existing building to determine the feasibility of a vertical expansion. All shear walls are 12" thick. Typical single-direction shear walls have 24" X 24" boundary elements on their ends. Boundary…
  • RAM shear wall section cut forces

I have a shear wall that has section cuts failing right at the corners. When I look at the forces in the failing section the shear is 760 kips and then right next to it is a passing section cut with a shear force of 240 kips. This is a very large force…
  • Balanced Load Causing Foundation Uplift

I have a podium PT slab that is causing large balanced load couple reactions on my shear walls and forcing my mat foundations to have significant uplift. The PT slab is designed in RAM Concept and the reactions are exported to our RSS model then exported…
  • RAM Concrete Column - Two Story Column Design (Sway Frame)

Hi, I have a two story concrete column that is unbraced the full height. Looking at the design results the moment magnification factor (delta) for the top story is 3.8 which I was able to verify by hand using ACI 318-14 Eq. 6.6.4.5.2. However the bottom…
  • how to get the loadings details in report????

I have got my report, but there is no loading details like dead load, Wind loads and all... In report settings i have added Loadings, but its not showing.... Wt to do???? i want to see other load details. How to get that details?
  • Problems / questions with a 2+5 podium

Hello, I have a podium building, 2 concrete flat slab levels supporting 5 wood (other) load bearing wall levels. It's a large building, like city block sized. The model runs fine in Frame, but it takes over 7 minutes. We export the results from Frame…
  • RAM Concrete Errors

I am able to run RAM Gravity Framing and RAM Frame with no errors, but when I run Ram Concrete errors keep popping up with different node instabilities. Is there a place to upload my file for additional help. Thanks
  • RE: Gravity Load computation error. Check gravity loads on slab decks

Karl found that the surface load polygon selected below on L1 is causing the problem. I think there is a snap issue with the slab edge or a deck nearby. If I delete it, then the model runs in RAM Concrete.
  • RE: RAM Concrete Analysis - Wall Meshing Error

Excellent. Here's a bit more information in case it comes up again. RAM Frame Meshing and Segmentation
  • RE: RAM Concrete Beam: Significant Positive Moments at a Support

You could stiffen the girder, making it a deeper section or less cracked for example, to confirm it's just a matter of relative rigidity leading to this unexpected bending moment. Another useful thing to check is the deflected shape. In the end you…
  • RE: How do columns designed for post-tensioned garage in Ram structural system?

If you integrate the RAM Structural System model with Ram Concept for the design of the PT slab and beams, then the modified column reactions from the Balanced Load are sent back to Ram Concrete and are used in combination with gravity and lateral loads…
  • RE: RAM Concrete Top Reinforcement Cover Too Large With Increase in Top Cover

I ran a test. Depending on the selected code and the forces, this warning kicks in when the single layer top cover to bar center increases to around 5" (ACI codes, using #6 bars and #3 ties). The capacity diagram is still correct (by inspection), but…
  • RE: Concrete Shear Wall Crash

Make sure you have current analysis results from Ram Frame. If it still crashes try deleting and re-assigning the section cuts.
  • RE: Wall Forces in Frame vs. Concrete Module

Check out our post on the module analysis types for starters. The floor-by-floor analysis approach in Ram Concrete can be quite different than the full 3D model analysis in Ram Frame. There are also some options in the criteria for the two modules…
