    • Composite Joists in RSS

      Jason McCool
      Jason McCool
Is there any option for specifying composite joists in RSS? The FloorVibe module had the option to use the SJI Composite Joist designations (i.e. ddCJxxx/xxx where dd is depth and xxx are the applicable loads). But I don't see any implementation of that…

Here's a sample calculation for the US codes. The I-effective part is on page 5. A snapshot of that is at the bottom.

I think you are encountering a new defect in RAM Steel 15.02.00.00 only. It affects girders when you use Design All, then View/Update and try to change the studs from the optimum. We are working on a solution, but if you have not done a lot of work since…

If the beam is acutely skewed to the deck you can have that problem. You'll find details here: You can always use the Assign - Ignore Rib Spacing... command to circumvent that issue.

Please check our Ram Steel Beam FAQ for details. It may be best to make that beam non-composite, or it may require the use of a modified deck (Assign menu - Ignore rib spacing) so that the stud row spacing can be smaller.

The Steel beam design report is the most detailed output we have (there is a less detailed summary). Regarding the modular ratio, it looks like the user can only set the modular ratio when using the British code (Ram Manger - Criteria - BS5950 Parameters…

Take a look at our Steel beam FAQ In it the first tip is to allow <25% composite action in the criteria so that you can evaluate beams as composite with fewer studs. Note, you have to assign the stud number and analyze as the program will never optimize…

Most of what you are looking for is available in one way or another. Minimum flange width can be specified in Modeler - Layout - beams - Size restrictions. Keep in mind this is an precise limit, not a nominal limit. There are also controls in the…
