HSS to W Beam Section - Through Plate Connection

Anyone else experience this warning for HSS width/thickness ratio for an HSS column connection?  It appears that RAM is back calculating a max thickness for wall thickness. (image attached)

  • The thru plate thickness check is deduced from the following:

    So we need the wall of the HSS to be slender.

    For Single plate connections, we have the following:

    In short:

    • If the wall is slender then you should use through-plates.
    • If the wall is not slender then you should use single plates.
